Students in Arlington Public Schools have the opportunity to participate in many higher level thinking experiences throughout the summer. These experiences cover all grade levels and give students opportunities to experience intellectual activities that might not be possible during the regular school year. Learn more about these by clicking on the specific links below: Within Arlington Public SchoolsPlease visit the APS Summer School Catalog to learn of all the offerings.The programs offered through the Gifted Services Office and/or in collaboration with other offices are highlighted below: Elementary School Opportunities:Summer Laureate is a challenging and fast-paced program providing experiences for students who demonstrate creativity, inquisitiveness, and a desire for an academic experience in the summer. Guided by concepts such as change, structure and cause/effect, students learn a topic of study in science through an integrated STEAM approach emphasizing critical and creative thinking, research skills, and technology integration and the arts.

Through a personalized learning approach, students will have the opportunity to self select from areas of study for individual and/or group projects based on their readiness and interests, to demonstrate what they have learned in the summer experience.Available in all Title I schools in collaboration with Gifted Services, the Young Scholar’s Innovation Academy provides rich learning opportunities related to real-world thinking with a strong emphasis on science and technology. Students will increase and develop critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving abilities through meaningful, authentic learning experiences. Students work with their peers to design, create and solve a problem while exploring various forms of technology.

Middle School Opportunities: Democracy in Action – Rising 7th – 9th GradersUsing a variety of field studies, and debates, students will apply their conceptual knowledge to determine how our understanding of history and government help us take a more active role in our communities and our nation. Leadership Academy on Global Issues – Rising 7th – 9th GradersUsing a variety of simulations, debates, and interactions with foreign policy experts, students will develop global competencies required for success in the 21st century. High School Opportunities:The Superintendent’s Seminar is an Arlington Public Schools summer enrichment program for rising 11th and 12th graders who have demonstrated a desire for academic experience beyond the classroom.
